Strategies for empowered engagement
with Austrian bureaucratic communicationAs part of the project ‘Amtsdeutsch ohne Angst’, we are holding public talks in which we present the project and discuss insights and results from the project workshops.
The idea behind these talks is to reach a wider audience (including journalists, specialists, students, administrative staff etc.) to break the taboo surrounding Reading Anxiety and bureaucratic communication and to increase awareness of the concepts of Kindness Communication and Relational Reading.
We welcome colleagues working in the fields of literacy and communication in general as well as in other teaching contexts to join us in discussing the relevance of the project themes for social cohesion and solidarity against the background of Austrian democratic discourse.
The talks take place one or two weeks after a workshop and last about one hour. Workshop participants are invited to talk about their experience and impressions with the audience. Afterwards, everyone will have the opportunity to talk and exchange ideas.
The public talks are held by the ‘Amtsdeutsch ohne Angst’ project creators Michèle Cooke und Michael En.
The talks are open to the public. They are held at the University of Vienna. Attendance is free of charge and there is no need to register in advance.
Anyone who is interested in hearing more about the cognitive-emotional barriers involved in understanding written texts and how these are situated within the concepts of Kindness Communication and Relational Reading is very welcome. This includes teachers, researchers and students from fields dealing with language and communication in all its dimensions; those investigating social inclusion and social cohesion; staff at government departments; administrative personel and decision-makers.
The next public talk takes place on 22 October 2025 (Wednesday), from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Erika-Weinzierl-Saal hall in the main building of the University of Vienna (Universitätsring 1, 1010 Vienna). The talk is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
We are planning to hold more talks in 2026.
